Barbie: The Eras
Illustration Project

This project was created for Mattel Creations t-shirt contest. Even though I didn't win, I loved studying all the different Barbie face molds and paints over the decades. It's beautiful to see how Barbie's face has changed to stay relevant with evolving fashion trends, and I love each little detail that went into transforming the details in the lashes, pupils, and eyeshadows.
As an extra detail, I made each border for the illustration correspond with that doll's outfit: Barbie 01's chevron stripes, black Malibu Barbie's red swimsuit, Theresa's polka dots, and so on.

Final T-Shirt Submission
I opted for a smaller box around the eyes and a pink ombre frame around each illustration, creating cohesion between each piece. I also added each year the specific doll I was referencing was designed.

Unused Illustrations
This was my first concept, but I had based all of the eyes on Caucasian Barbie face molds. I opted to find face molds of different ethnicities to provide more diversity and inclusion on the shirt, which is why this version was scrapped.
